Looks like Windows 8 is not going to be good for PC gamers. From what i have heard and read they want to create there own app store which Microsoft approve everything that goes on there.

Looks like they might go for a a closed platform format means that we won't be able to use steam on Windows 8...

That is rubbish, typical from forum bandwagoning drama queens - I already run Steam on Windows 8 on my old laptop and all your old x86 software - games included - run on it

dont forget that windows 8 will be released in different flavours, one for normal PC's and one for the tablets/smart, whatevertheyare's im guessing the latter will need a market store similar to windows mobile as they want to severly lock it down, the "x86" style pc's should have no problem installing (or maybe to coin a new phrase on windows pc's, sideload) applications without much trouble.

though gabe newell did register his lack of interest in windows 8 as a platform and this link touches on what i just mentioned. roll on linux as a gaming platform :D

Gabe is rightly worried about the direction MS is going, but it hasn't actually happened in Windows 8 and is not likely to happen anytime soon, Steam will be a fully Windows / Linux / Mac platform system before that happens and if push come to shove they won't lose a single customer. MS will never allow the enthusiast gamer out of it's grasp, expect a bit of horse trading between MS and Valve and this whole lovers tiff will blow over.
