I know that AMD tends to be viewed as budget but i've always preferred them for some reason.

I have no particular loyalty and have used AMD when the Athlon 64's were ruling the roost, but now Intel has the Core chips I now use a Core i7 and haven't looked back, and now Sandybridge is here I can't see AMD gaining any ground. Sure there is lots of room in he midrange but Intel still have that sewn up with the i5 chips.

^ Couldnt agree more. Intel have seriously hit the nail on the head with their i5/i7 range.

Me being a laptop person i dont think ive ever seen a company with a competitive AMD product when it comes to the performance/heat tradeoff.

Interweb pc is AMD as Cool 'n' Quiet is superior to Speedstep for my needs. However, games pc is Intel i5, and come upgrade time I'll be going Ivy Bridge with the equivalent cpu.

wow, epic bump! ryzen is just about to land, dodgy biased benchmarks make it look amazing, give it a few weeks and we'll see how it really compares.

Intel knows how to play this game well, since 4th gen it has been playing possum. Incremental speed increases sold on the back of larger power efficiency. Very useful for the laptop market but less for desktops. If Ryzen shows good results then expect Intel to crank out it's next-Gen powerhouse that R&D has been sitting on for years.
